Pre-Licensing Insurance Education Courses
Personal Lines Insurance (In201):
This course meets the New York State educational requirement needed to qualify for the NEW Personal Lines Agent’s Licensing Exam. Topics include New York and federal insurance regulations, general insurance concepts, types and organization of insurers, agents and brokers regulations and general rules of agency, contracts, property and casualty insurance basics, dwelling forms, homeowner policies, auto insurance, watercraft, fair plans and miscellaneous coverages. In addition to college and state testing and attendance requirements, license applicants must pass the final exam with a minimum score of 70.
Property and Casualty Insurance Agents and Brokers Licensing Course (In202): This course, in COMBINATION with In201, Personal Lines Insurance, meets the New York State Educational requirement needed to qualify for the General Agents and Brokers Licensing exam. In201, Personal Lines Insurance is a MANDATORY prerequisite. Topics include commercial auto coverage, commercial general liability Insurance, business owners’ policies, commercial property policies, inland and ocean marine insurance, boiler and machinery coverages, commercial crime forms, workers compensation laws and coverages. General concepts of accident and health insurance are also included. In addition to college and state testing and attendance requirements, license applicants must pass the final exam with a minimum score of 70.
Life, Accident and Health Insurance (IN204):
This course meets educational requirements needed in order to qualify for the New York Life, Accident and Health Insurance exam. Topics include New York and federal insurance regulations, general insurance concepts, contract analysis, life and accident/health insurance basics and policies, options, provisions and riders. Additional topics include annuities, federal tax considerations, qualified plans, disability insurance, social insurance and related medical plans. Students will also study long term care insurance, group health, dental insurance, government health insurance plans and special supplemental policies. In additional to college and state testing and attendance requirements, license applicants must pass the final exam with a minimum score of 70.
Public Adjuster’s Course:
This forty (40) hour program is approved by the New York State Insurance Department and meets the pre-licensing education requirement to take the Public Adjuster’s State examination. Students must pass the final examination with a score of 70 to be eligible for the state licensing exam.
Topics include N.Y.S. licensing requirements, basics of insurance including principles and concepts, the role of the adjuster and adjustment procedures. Special emphasis is placed on the Dwelling Policy, Homeowners (2000) Policy, Commercial Package Policy and the Business Owner’s Form, as well as Marine and Flood insurance.
The course will use detailed policy analysis as a means to examine insurance basics, concepts and principles. Direct examples of the adjusting process will be a part of the program. Since this is a state mandated pre-licensing course, attendance at all sessions is mandatory.
