Oneonta Branch Adopt-A-Highway Program
Posted 5/9/08

USC Oneonta is participating in the Adopt-A-Highway program, focusing on a two mile stretch of I-88 in the East bound direction between Oneonta and Otego New York. Recently a group of eight students volunteered to clean the litter off the school’s section of highway.  Departing from the Oneonta campus, the intrepid group first headed to the Department of Transportation to pick up the necessary flags, garbage bags, vests, gloves, and the ever-beautiful bright orange hard hats.

One group of students started at the USC Adopt-A-Highway sign on I-88 and the other group of students started two miles away. Planning to meet in the middle, the volunteers were able to enjoy the sunny 75 degree day while competing for the biggest bag of trash.

The treasures found ranged from car pieces to food containers to clothing.  After a hard morning of work, the group returned to the USC campus to be rewarded with pizza and cold drinks.  Stacy Titus, Admissions Associate for USC summed up the day, “Everyone had a great time doing something good for the community!”
