Plug-Ins

"Plug-in" software allows users to create and view online documents, audio, video, animation and multimedia presentations.

Document sharing:

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader is available for Windows 95 or later, MacOS8.1 or later, Linux and Unix versions.

  • Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word Viewers allow a user to view MS Office files without purchasing the software.

Special Software

  • Java is computer programming language that allows small application programs to be downloaded from a server to a client along with the data that each program processes.  Java is used throughout the Blackboard environment.

Multimedia presentations (audio, video and/or animation):

  • Apple QuickTime is available for Windows 95 or later and MacOS 8.1 or later.
     

  • Macromedia Flash Player is available for Windows 95 or later, MacOS 8.1 or later,
     

  • Macromedia Shockwave Player is available for Windows 95 or later, MacOS 8.1 or later.
     

  • RealNetworks RealPlayer is available for Windows 95 or later, Mac OS, Linux and Unix versions.
     

  • Microsoft Media Player is available for Windows 95 or later, Mac OS 8.1 or later and Solaris.
